RR Lights Site of the JLN Railroad Locomotive

The JLN will be loosely modeled after sites located in Lawrence County, Indiana. Lawrence county was once the home of the Bedford Belt Railway. I expect we will model the transition era. Our plan is to feature some of Lawrence Counties more famous sites. I'm planning on at least one Limestone quarry, probably featuring the Oolitic quarries, specifically the Empire and surrounding quarries. The mainline will make a trip through Fort Ritner so that it can travel through the Big Tunnel. The mainline will then trek through the county seat of Bedford and then head east out of Bedford to a fictional area that I will try to model after a roundhouse that was once a part of the Bedford Belt Railway 1 - 2.

Hopefully through this project I will be able to spend much time with my children in designing and building the railway.

The layout dimensions are 5'8" x 8' with the mainline shooting off a 30" x 10' leg. The layout is in our basement. The local hobby shop owner told me to make my first layout as large as my wife would allow. I didn't press her on the issue of size (I originally asked for the whole basement), but I think the layout is a pretty good start, at least for a beginner, besides I have room to grow.

Special thanks to all the guys with all the knowledge at Trainboard.com.
